Skin needling | Essentials

The types of Skin needling

Skin Needling can be performed in a superficial treatment, to improve pigmentation, and then in the deeper layers to treat ageing, scarring and hydration. Your Dermal Therapist will advise which option is best for you and your skin goals.

Loved by beauty authorities around the world, this treatment involves applying a TGA-listed Pen, made of tiny needles to the surface of the skin. The roller creates tiny puncture channels that encourage an organic collagen renewal and regeneration response.

This wound healing response is what stimulates new collagen and elastin formation which then assists with plumping out fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring. It also reduces the appearance of pigmentation, enlarged pores, and stretch marks.

What is SkinPen micro needling?

Microneedling, also called medical needling, collagen induction therapy (CIT) or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a skin treatment used to treat:

+ wrinkles
+ fine lines
+ scars (including acne scarring)
+ large pores
+ pigmentation
+ Microneedling uses multiple fine, sterile needles to puncture the skin with microscopic channels.

This intentional, controlled injury initiates a skin healing response, resulting in the increased production of collagen and elastin. The end result is thicker, plumper, firmer, smoother skin. Additionally, skincare products are able to penetrate more deeply into the skin, making them more effective.

Skin conditions you can treat with needling

Skin needling can be used to improve collagen levels in the skin, so it is perfect for:
+ Fine lines and wrinkles
+ Sun damage
+ Brown spots and pigmentation
+ Open pores
+ Congestion
+ Acne
+ Mild acne scarring
+ Dry and dehydrated skin

Skin needling can produce a number of benefits for our skin. These include boosting skin hydration, reducing scars, reducing pore size, improving skin tightness and increasing collagen in the skin. We can guarantee you that both the Dermafrac and Skinpen system produce wonderful results, that just keep improving over time.

Benefits of skin needling

Skin needling produces both immediate and gradual benefits. You can expect to leave our Balwyn office with plumper skin, improved texture and an enviable radiance after your first treatment. Over time, as the procedure stimulates collagen production and cell renewal, your results will continue to improve. Long-term benefits may include a reduction in wrinkles or scarring, fading of irregular pigmentation and improvement in skin laxity.

We recommend starting with a series of three SkinPen treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. If you are interested in using SkinPen Microneedling to rejuvenate your skin before a big event, we suggest scheduling your series so that the final session concludes two weeks before the occasion. We will then move you onto the Dermal Booster treatments to really boost your results and improve the skin deeper down. These will require a consultation and may result in a prescriptive approach.

Periodic touch-up treatments will help you maintain your results over the long term once the initial series is complete.

What is the difference between SkinPen and Home devices?

Skinpen is a medical device. It works much deeper than home devices. and is TGA listed to treat Melasma - the first device of its kind. Skinpen is a treatment that will "up your end-game". Every treatment builds on the next. This means that your skin will continue to improve and move forward as time goes on.

Home devices usually cause lots of unwanted trauma, without the depth required to produce real change where it counts.

What can I expect after skin needling treatment?

Post treatment, your skin may look as though it has sunburn. How long the redness lasts depends on the individual, but most clients see a reduction after 24 to 48 hours. Some dryness, pinpoint bleeding and bruising may also be present, which is entirely normal and will resolve within a few days. Your treatment includes an aftercare take-home kit to soothe, calm and heal the skin.

You’ll seen an improvement after one treatment, but the optimal number of treatments depends on the condition you’re seeking to address. Some conditions may require 3 treatments, while others such as scarring require a minimum of 6 treatments.
